Six Seconds Model of Emotional Intelligence
When you completed the SEI Assessment, you gained some new insights that increased your self-awareness. You may have identified some new triggers or auto-pilot reactions, and you may have discovered things that stall you, and things that propel you forward.
This program was designed to meet you exactly where you are at in your EQ development. Work with your EQ Assessor to determine where your best starting point begins!
THE PRACTICE™ is directly tied to Six Seconds EQ model. Review each section below for a quick overview.
Know Yourself…so often our day is packed with meetings, projects, to-do lists, errands, and obligations that we find ourselves running on auto-pilot.
Know Yourself is about slowing down and turning inward to pay attention to what is beneath the surface. It’s about noticing all the chatter in your head, the waves of emotions and feelings that come and go, and how the two work together to influence your perceptions of the world around you and your actions.
Six Seconds identifies two competencies that will help you to increase your self-awareness.
1. Enhance Emotional Literacy
2. Recognize Patterns
Choose Yourself…We’ve all been there before. Something triggers us and we react on auto-pilot creating an unstoppable wave of destruction. Well…maybe not destruction, but definitely mishap. When things settle down and we are able to reflect on what happened, we might find ourselves wishing we could hit the rewind button and have a second chance.
Choose Yourself is about using your self-awareness and the new insights you have from recognizing your thoughts and feelings to make an informed decision. With emotional intelligence, you are able to move from reacting in the moment to being intentional about considering all your options.
Six Seconds identifies four competencies that will help you to consider your options.
1. Navigate Emotions
2. Optimism
3. Apply Consequential Thinking
4. Intrinsic Motivation
Give Yourself…Simon Sinek says, “Those who know WHAT they do, tend to work harder. Those who know WHY, tend to work smarter.”
Give Yourself is about your Why? and being purposeful with your actions. One of the things that makes Six Seconds model of emotional intelligence unique is that it helps you to connect your daily actions with your deeper purpose, making you more compelling and engaging. It takes into consideration the impact you want to have on the world around you.
